art therapy

We are excited to announce that our art program will be resuming soon!  The program was put on ‘hold’ after the flood crisis last fall, as our agency turned its focus to the needs of the many food victims we took in.  But as things have stabilized & the new year has started, we look forward to resuming our efforts to provide consistent artistic opportunities to our long term housing residents.  In the past we have participated in several  mosaic projects, made paper mache sculptures, jewelry, paper crafts, & even learned the basics of Tai Chi, (just to name a few!).  In addition, Yvonne Lucia generously hosted several art activities at her Art Barn studio.  Our women residents also “gave back” to the community by making mosaic cakes that were auctioned off at the American Cancer Society’s “More Birthdays” fundraiser.

  • consider making a donation to our art program

With the new year well under way we look forward to expanding these artistic opportunities!   In fact, my dream would be to take the residents on a “field trip” to the Corning Glass Museum for a tour & class.  We encourage anyone interested in supporting us to consider donating new or gently used art supplies, money for supplies/field trips or even their time & expertise  We are open to any creative experience, including dance/movement, performing arts, music, literary arts, etc!  Providing our women these opportunities enhances their ability to express themselves, improves self esteem,  & exposes them to art as a health coping skill.

If you have any questions about our program or how you can support us, feel free to contact me at x232.

Mosaic MuralThis large wall mural was created by the residents by designing indivual squares that were then pieced together to make one mosaic masterpiece!

A group of residents created Mardi Gras masks during one of the Art Therapy sessions.
