Stand Against Racism

The Stand Against Racism is a national movement of the YWCA with the goal of bringing people together from all walks of life - across the country - to raise awareness that racism still exists.

The methodology of the Stand Against Racism is to bring together like-minded organizations that share in our vision of eliminating racism and celebrating the richness of diversity. By inviting community organizations to partner with us, we maximize the outreach of this mission, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants.

Through our annual event, which takes place the last Friday of each April, the YWCA's Stand Against Racism addresses the root causes of racism and encourages conversations across diverse communities in the USA.

We invite groups of any size to become a Participating Site of the Stand Against Racism by hosting a "Stand." A "Stand" is an event, private or public, hosted by your organization/company/school/church where participants gather to take a pledge that will stand against racism.

How it works

  1. Any group of any size can become a Participating Site of the Stand Against Racism: corporations large or small, schools (from elementary schools to universities), government agencies, non profit or civic organizations, hospitals, churches or synagogues, even two neighbors gathered around a kitchen table.
  2. After your group signs up, through the registration form, you will receive an email with  “How To” documents.  These documents include a supporter sign up form, an “Invitation Template” that you could use to invite supporters to come to your Stand, and ideas for planning your event.  Your Stand could be as simple as a 15-minute discussion/presentation or as large as an outdoor rally, an all-day open house, or anything in between.
  3. If you choose to be a Participating Site you will be listed on our website and individuals near you will be able to find out about you and the details of your particular event.
  4. There is no cost whatsoever to become a Participating Site. However, we would like to ask that supporters consider making a small donation to the YWCA to continue to sustain our efforts of Racial Justice all year long.
  5. If you sign up before the deadline (Wednesday, April 18, 2012), you will receive a Stand Against Racism Toolkit in the mail within one week of signing up. Your toolkit will include:
    * 25 Stickers "Racism Hurts Everyone"
    * 25 Color Bookmarks "What You Can Do To Combat Racism"
    * 3 Color 11x17 Posters
  6. Need help? We are available to assist you in any way we can.  Contact the Stand Against Racism coordinator:  Becky Krise (607)772-0340 x 230 or bkrise@ywcaofbinghamton.org
